BGS success at Bristol League Chess Congress

Over the weekend of Friday 26 to Sunday 28 April, Bristol Grammar School hosted the centenary Bristol League Chess Congress in the Great Hall.

This attracted over 160 chess players of all ages from across the region, including an elite top section which included two grandmasters and two international masters, amongst a large number of club players and chess enthusiasts.

There was notably success for the BGS pupils who took part - notably for Advay in Year 9 and Rayyan in Year 8, who came first and second respectively out of 63 participants in the minor section. We wish them well when they represent us in the finals of the English Schools Chess Championships at Nottingham University in June.

And we look forward to the next big tournament here, the Bristol Megafinal of the UK Chess Challenge on Saturday 8 June.
